Summer has arrived, temperatures increase and you probably look for a refreshing shelter. Fortunately, our area, surrounded by mountains and nature, offers exactly what are you looking for. Today we want to give you some suggestions on what to do in Bassano del Grappa on the hottest summer days.

Grotte di Oliero

Located in Valle del Brenta, in the city of Valstagna and the municipality of Valbrenta, the Oliero Caves offer a safe and suggestive shelter from the heat.

These caves were discovered in 1882 by the botanist Alberto Parolini and are the largest karst springs in Europe. The principal cave is called Parolini and is accessed with a small wooden boat. Inside, you will cross a deep crystalline water lake where you can admire stalactites and stalagmites and enjoy a temperature of around 12 degrees throughout the year. Once you have passed through the lake, you will arrive at a small pier with a large crack: the Crepo dee Soree (the sisters’ crack). The visit continues in Sala della Colata, called in this way due to the enormous cascade of alabaster stalactites.

Currently you can visit other four caves, in addition to the main one: “Covol dei Veci”, “Covol dei Siori”, “Covol degli Assassini” and “Covol dee Sore”.

Inside the Natural Park of the Grotte di Oliero there are also two educational museums.

Gorghi Scuri a Marostica

Another suggestion to fight the heatwave can be found in Marostica, we are talking about the “Gorghi Scuri”. To get there, you can take a pleasant walk through the Venetian hills, in the Valle San Floriano. Going up the path you will find a small waterfall, which changes the water level depending on the season and weather conditions.

Walking surrounded by nature and water will be a great way to cool off on the hottest days.

Le cave dipinte di Rubbio

Near Marostica and a few kilometers from Bassano you can find the Rubbio quarries. If you have never seen them, we recommend a visit. Especially if you travel with children: it will certainly be a great experience to share with the whole family. These abandoned quarries are a colorful open-air museum.

To reach them, once you arrive in the village of Rubbio, you will have to leave your car behind the church and continue by walking along via Monte Caina. From the Rubbio’s quarries you can admire, on the clearest days, the sea and the lagoon of Venice.

And you? Did you already know these places?
